We have 4 border collies/ collie-cross dogs, which need walks morning and evening, and company for much of the day, we do not leave them on their own for more than 5 hours as they are intelligent working dogs which need company and stimulation, or they will find things to do on their own, or go distracted. The cats are shy and will need little more than feeding twice a day and biscuits last thing at night. The hens need letting out of their hut and shutting up at night, the chicks need feeding twice a day, and the friendly small breed sheep are fed twice a day (6 ewes, 3 rams/ram lambs, 5 of this year's lambs), so they can be counted and checked! The terrain here is steep, with terracing, some uneven rocky steps, some sheer drops, so sitters need to be reasonably fit and strong, to carry water around etc. Parts of our terrain are a building site, with walls part built for terracing the land, If the weather is dry I have several newly planted trees which will need watering, as well as some pots, and ornamental plants, and a vegetable garden. We expect house sitters to be conscientious, capable, kind, and able to take decisions if necessary - for example, all of our animals are healthy, touch wood, but would need someone who would take responsibility for taking an animal to the vet if necessary (about 2km away in the village).
Sitters would sleep and have their own bathroom and kitchen in our newly renovated gite (which we'd want kept clean and tidy), but the animals are not allowed in the gite, so we would need sitters to spend time with the dogs and cats which live with us in our unrenovated house, or on the outside terraces and garden, or obviously taking the dogs for walks. We have both English and French TV and fibre internet. Couples would probably find the sit easier, and we would prefer to have a couple sit for us, mainly as there are times when it's useful to have a hand doing some things, (our neighbours are often not there as it's a holiday home) but we have had several very capable single sitters in the past.
We have had many sitters over the years, and still keep in touch with some of them, and just as we would not want to let them down, once an arrangement has been reached, we would expect equal commitment from our sitters.
Our dates aren't firm as yet, and are flexible a few days either side of those quoted. We like sitters to come a couple of days at least before we leave so the animals can get used to you, and sitters can stay longer as well, especially if they are without a car, as we would be able to take them out to see some sights locally if they like.

Restored gite plus house in need of restoration in a stunning area with exceptional views, 15 minutes walk from a village with all facilities and a further 10 minutes walk from the tourist hotspot of Collonges la Rouge. Cats, dogs, sheep and chickens to care for, and garden watering if necessary.

This sit is likely to appeal to those who love nature, beautiful countryside, attractive lively villages and those who just enjoy watching things - sitting on the balcony, you can watch the birds, insects, lizards, cattle in the valley below, search out distant villages, even watch hot air balloons drifting by at times. We can collect sitters from the station in Brive if they are without a car, and take them on a couple of outings, eg Rocamadour, or a more undiscovered treasure of the Dordogne, as well if they would like, after we have returned from our trip. We are flexible ish on dates, but would like to be away for 2 weeks or so to go to a family event in the uk.

We are extremely lucky, we live in stunning countryside, and have exceptional views, over our walnut orchard, several valleys including the Dordogne valley, to the distant hills of the Lot and Auvergne. We have only one near neighbour but are only 15 minutes walk from the lively village of Meyssac, with its twice weekly market, a full range of shops including a supermarket, doctors and dentists practices and vet, some crafting shops and a glass blowing studio! We are also within walking distance of the 'plus beaux village' of Collonges la Rouge, and an easy drive to many plus beaux villages and the Dordogne river, and 40 minutes from Rocamadour. The dogs would love it if you have a car, they love trips to the river especially, but are happy enough with local walks. We have a track going up the hill from our house, with other local tracks, paths and lanes. One feature of the area we enjoy is the wildlife, there are many interesting plants, birds and insects, and I do keep parts of the garden and land quite wild in order to encourage them.

We are in a very popular tourist area, for French tourists more than foreigners though. Many beautiful and plus beaux villages, Meyssac itself, Collonges, Turenne, Curemonte, Martel, Beaulieu sur Dordogne, Autoire, Carennac, Loubressac, etc Rocamador at 40 minutes, and some great cave systems to explore as well, as well as other usual outdoor activities.
