I have three friendly cats and they are used to freely roam the house and just find a place to sleep (often on top of a wardrobe). They will need to be fed 2 times a day (times are somewhat flexible). I have a cat litter box I empty every day to reduce the burden on the (neighbors) gardens. Twice a week the plants should be watered. the mail should be collected.

This is the first time I am trying this service, because we are going with the whole family to the US for 3.5 weeks. Usually I organize something with the neighbors to take care of the cats, but I think that this is too long to leave my beloved cats without proper attention. They are very kind and like the company. Also the plants may not survive the patchwork of neighbors' help. I hope that I will find a nice house sitter, who will enjoy the Netherlands and my house, but also learn to love my cats.

You can walk to the City center (5min) or take a long walk along the canal surrounding the city (7km). there is a two parks 2 min from the house with sport facilities for young and old. Leiden has many canals and you can rent a boat or go SUPing (as my kids sometimes do). If you like to bike this is a great city to experience Dutch bike culture without the crazy density of Amsterdam. From the house you also easily bike to the surrounding taking a short tour along the cheese farms (with one converted into a ice cream heaven), or make a trip (30 min) to the see, which not only have nice beaches, but also nature preserved dune areas where you can hike between longhorns. Leiden as the oldest University City of the Netherlands and with a growing Bioscience park, also has a decent ex-pat community and a fair amount of cultural activities. There are many nice museums and In the summer, many outdoor events are offered (e.g. dragonboat races). If you get a "museum card" for about EUR50 (yearly fee) you will have free access to most musea in the whole Netherlands, but also …

I am new to this, so maybe I already repeat myself. Leiden in is the center of the so-called "randstadt", which is the most dense populated area between Amsterdam, Utrecht, Rotterdam and Den Haag. Of all these cities, Leiden is the closest to the sea and the most relaxed one. So you have the benefit to visit a lot of places on day trips, but come home to a relaxing small town feeling. If you like tulips, there "bollenstreek" with all the tulip fields is only a 30 min bike ride (you notice that everything here is in bike minutes instead of car..Leiden is actually planning to ban cars form their city completely in the near future). But don't worry, if you don't like or dare to rent a bike or use the once in the house (including an Urban Arrow), you can use public transportation which will get you everywhere (Amsterdam, Delft, Den Haag, Rotterdam, the beach) within 30 min. The airport (Shiphol) is 15 min by train and the house is a 15 min walk from the train station in Leiden.

Stephan is a nice man. He informed me very well about the house and the three cats. During my stay it was easy to have contact with him. The cats are really are very sweet and never caused any trouble. Leiden is a very nice, lively and historical city with a lot of nice museums. The beach is nearby. Biking outside Leiden is a peaceful experience. I enjoyed my stay.
