Our dogs are our family and we would like you to treat them the same. The two older dogs require medication, but their problems are not life-threatening and they keep up with the younger dogs. Tasks involve feeding, walking, poo collecting and occasional grooming, as well as giving lots of affection. If the dogs need veterinary attention we would like the sitters to take them to the vet, as we would. We can access the forest directly from our land at the back of the house. We do keep them on a lead walking up and down the lane. Our little Skye isn't allowed off the lead, as she was a street dog and likes to wander off.
We would like you to keep the house reasonably tidy and clean, as well as watering any plants in the garden or on the land. We usually have a few tomatoes growing in the summer.
If you want to use the pool, you would need to keep it clean by removing debris on a daily basis, and giving it a weekly vacuum. We do have a hot tub, but it currently needs a new base and we are not yet sure how this can be done.
Our garden is fully enclosed with electric gates. It is situated down a small, no through road.
We have a covered barbeque area where we eat during the summer.
Unfortunately, we do not have a car for you to use, so you would need to have your own transport. Public transport is almost non-existent in the villages here in Portugal.
We haven't yet set our dates, but we need to be back in the UK for a wedding and a 90th birthday party, which are unmoveable. I need to buy a dress for the wedding, too! We also have medical appointments here that we need to fit around. The dates I have listed are the dates of the ferries from Santander.

We have lots of DVDs and music CDs and have 3 Alexas. There is a cupboard full of jigsaw puzzles, although we don't tend to do these in the summer, preferring to eat and sit outside during the evenings. Our house is very light (lots of patio windows) and all rooms open onto a balcony or veranda. We also have a sun terrace, where it get's very hot. There is air conditioning in some of the rooms that can also act as heaters in the cold weather.
Our main source of heating for the winter is a wood burner in the living room and a pellet burner in the dining room. We are hoping to have our oil-fired boiler changed to a pellet boiler in the summer, so we can use the central heating. We haven't used any heating from May until the end of October in the time we have lived here.
We have very fast fibre broadband and multi-channel TV.
We are "gadget people" so we have lots of kitchen gadgets to make cooking easier. We eat out a couple of times a week as the cost of eating out is much less than the UK. Wine is very cheap …

We live in the countryside, about 2km from the town of Lousa. In our village there is a post office and a cafe. In Lousa there is a modern Health Centre, vets, supermarkets, restaurants and cafes. From Lousa, you can get a bus to Coimbra, which was once the capital of Portugal and is a very beautiful, old city, on the river Mondego.
We are surrounded by hills, have river beaches, pretty Xist villages, lots of trails and a castle. It is a very beautiful place to live. To access shopping malls and cinemas, you need to go into Coimbra, about half an hour's drive away.
There are many places to visit, but most can only be accessed by car.

We do not live in a tourist area, although you may need to book restaurants on a Friday or Saturday. Fortunately, many people speak reasonable English, so even if you don't know any Portuguese, you will get by.
We have a folder of places to visit in the area. The Castelo in Lousa is beautiful and can now be accessed by a walkway from Lousa. A bit further afield are the Roman Ruins in Conimbriga, the University and Botanical gardens in Coimbra, cathedrals, churches and museums.
We are about a one and a half hours drive from the Silver Coast, with its endless beaches and amazing waves.
We are about 2 hours from Porto and same from Lisbon, but we do ask not to leave the dogs unattended for the whole day, although we have friends close by who would be willing to come and let them out occasionally.
