We are looking for one non-smoker, or a non-smoking couple, to stay in our home while we are away.
One of us has Celiac Disease and is very allergic to gluten. We request that you do not cook or eat gluten in the house - however, please enjoy as much Bolo do Caco and delicious Portuguese pastries as you can (outside the home) while enjoying the island!
Your main responsibility it to make sure the house is properly ventilated with window and shutter maintenance, and running the dehumidifier daily for an hour.
There are two local grocery shops 10 minutes drive from the house. The large grocery store is 15-20 minutes drive. You will need a car.

Small house in a quaint mountain village of Madeira, surrounded by vineyards. Lovely neighbors may be close, but are quiet and respectful people. Upstairs has a small living room with table (collapsable for one person, expandable for two people). The tiny kitchen has an electric four burner hob, a small oven, organic coffee beans, a french press and assorted teas. The upstairs bathroom is very small, but consists of a standing shower, toilet, sink and mirror. A small walk-through closet room has enough space to unroll a yoga mat with a window that looks out to the majestic mountains. The bedroom contains a double bed, two small dressers, and two bedside tables.
To get to the downstairs and outdoor space, you go out the front door, down some steps, and through a gate. The downstairs is a small open office space where two people can easily work. Currently, there is a sitting desk, a standing desk (with stepper or ergonomic standing pad option - but only works if you are under 170cm tall). The outdoor space contains a little table and two outdoor chairs that can be set up to work or eat outside in the shade. There are a handful of potted plants that will need tending to.
We are currently taking care of an outdoor neighborhood kitten. If she is still around at the time of the housesit, we would ask that you provide food to her twice a day (we'd leave clear instructions on this if she is still coming around).
The biggest responsibility of taking care of the house entails opening and closing windows to properly ventilate. The dehumidifier must be run once a day for an hour or so in both the upstairs and the downstairs. While our neighborhood, Achada do Til, is in a stunning mountain landscape that enjoys plenty of sun, we also receive plenty of rain, mist, and dew. Keeping the house aired out and running the dehumidifiers is the primary reason we are looking for someone to stay here while we are away for two weeks.
Northern Madeira is one of the best kept secrets of the island. Rent a car to explore the stunning North shore, natural rock pools of Seixal, waterfalls, and epic hiking trails. The beach is five km from the house.

If you are wanting to experience more tourist experiences, they are mostly in Funchal or in the South part of the island. Funchal is a 35-60 minute drive (depending on traffic and where in Funchal you need to go).
There is a bus that runs through our village regularly, but it is a 2.5 hour bus ride to Funchal, since it travels by the backroads and through all the villages (potentially a fun way for some to experience the culture). Renting a car is the most efficient way to experience and see different parts of the island.
