We have 2 lively mixed breed dogs who are incredibly friendly and playful. They entertain each other lots but will need walking/exercising twice a day. We live in the mountains so walking involves down and up hill. Two affectionate but independent cats who only need feeding and a bit of love and 15 chickens that need a quick clean out each day, food and water.. There is also an allotment that will need watering if it is dry (and food eaten). We have an extensive garden which is mostly irrigated but some plants will still need watering if the weather is dry.

Our home is a cortijo (country cottage) in Las Alpujarras, southern foothills of the Sierra Nevada in Granada.. It has stunning views of the mountains, a plunge pool, loads of places to relax in the sunshine or shade. The house is just outside Orgiva, in the Alpujarras. 1 hour drive from Granada, 30-40 mins to the beach, with beautiful walking territory. 2 hours from Malaga airport. It has two bedrooms in the main house and an additional self contained studio (which at times is rented) at the other end of the land.

We live in stunning mountains, perfect for a retreat or holiday, we are about 4 km to Orgiva, there are buses that go a few times a day to town or to the mountain villages, but hiring a car would be recommended. You can walk to Orgiva by the river bed in about 40 mins and back in about 1 hour. We have magnificent views and a beautiful garden. We have a plunge pool in the summer which is perfect for cooling yourself down on hot days. We live up a short steep dirt track so there is a wonderful rural feel, as you look over the valley below. Our house is tucked away a little below most of our land (its name is Cortijo Escondido or Hidden Cottage), so there are a few steps between the parking area and house.

This is a stunning area with great walks in the mountains, the nearest beach is about 40 minute drive away, within an hour there are a whole choice of beaches from rustic to town. In winter in about an hour you can reach the ski resort of the Sierra Nevada. We are an hour from Granada itself, an amazing city to visit. We are in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada so not far from the famous white villages of Pampineira, Bubion and Capilleira (wonderful walking, restuarants and artisan shops). We are about 30 mins drive from the Spa town of Lanjaron. Orgiva itself is a market town with a few nice cafes and restuarants.

Matt and Frankie were wonderful to sit for! They were very friendly and easy-going, and thorough in explaining their expectations for the care of their pets and garden, and were very quick to respond to any other questions we had during the sit--even during their much-needed vacation! Their dedication to an eco-friendly way of life is admirable and inspiring. Our 18 days passed much too quickly--we loved our time at their house and with their sweet pets and bountiful garden in that strikingly pretty area of southern Spain. We very highly recommend them!

House-sitting up in the beautiful hills of Bayacas for the nice couple, Frances and Matt was a great adventure for us. They gave very good instructions and kept in contact. Taking care of George, the cats and the chickens. The sweet dog George was really a fun to be with. Highly recommended for adventures people.

From the outset, communications with Matt and Frances were excellent as were the directions for getting to their charming home. Even though there was little time for the initial hand over, we were greeted warmly and shown around the home and grounds, shown how things worked, what to look out for and provided with a host of local hand tips. Sheltered and hidden in its own enclave, the home exudes a natural charm which we found difficult to leave behind. George the juvenile dog was a real charmer who just loved having company and whilst he has yet to learn how to deliver retrieved sticks he does enjoy chasing an endless supply. The two cats slept for what seemed like three weeks... other than when they demanded a fuss..... and chickens who enjoyed being picked up and talked to provided an endless supply of eggs. Would we house/pet sit for Matt and Frances again? without a moments hesitation, they are a lovely couple who genuinely made us feel welcome, going out of their way to ensure our stay and care of their home and animals was stress free and an absolute pleasure.
