We have a husky mix, a siamese cat, an African Grey parrot, and a gold fish. Una, our dog, needs a walk in the morning and will love you forever if you take her on a second in the evening. She is very friendly with people, but needs to be kept on leash around some other dogs lest her wolf ancestry overtake her modern sensibilities. Max the parrot talks, but not on command. He needs food daily. Arnold the cat is extremely personable. He is indoor-outdoor, no cat litter duty required. Fred the fish keeps to himself, but gets a pinch of food daily.

Cottage on 1.5 acres of pine, oak, eucalyptus and other flora in Topanga, California. Trails into the Santa Monica mountains are walking distance. We are 15 minutes from the beach and 15 minutes from suburbia. Jacuzzi, trampoline, and ample outdoor area.

Topanga is somewhat of a village in the hills between Malibu, Santa Monica, and Calabasas/Woodland hills. It is 45 minutes from downtown Los Angeles, and suburbia on the valley side of the area has all commercial amenities and city sprawl you would expect from an urban metropolis. However, when you are in Topanga, you feel transported. Owls, coyotes, and crickets create the evening sound track. While we are in the city, once you leave the freeway and ascend into the hills, you feel transported. There is a village center with a few restaurants and shops five minutes from our home.

Topanga is a special place in the hills above the sea. We are within 30 minutes of Malibu and 25 minutes of Santa Monica, both tourist destinations. If it is your first time in Los Angeles, you can venture to Hollywood for your iconic picture with the sign, enjoy Universal Studios or Disneyland, check out Disney Hall, the Broad, and the Getty Museum(s)--just maintain your cool in the ever-present traffic! Then, escape back to Topanga and enjoy a glass of wine and dip in the jacuzzi.
