We have a senior citizen bichon frise (about 12 pounds). He needs little extras like carrying up and down steps a couple times a day. He gets confused if he's by himself too long. Otherwise he's very low maintenance as he sleeps much of the time. The main responsibilities are walking in the morning and evening, keeping food and water fresh, and giving him a lap to snuggle on. Also -- we have short term renters in the basement apartment and it would be good to have someone who could act as an emergency contact. (There's never been an emergency, but just for ease of mind.)
