In a busy part of town, but really quiet at night. The neighbors in our duplex are very friendly and helpful. There is a bus at the end of the street. Public transportation in portland is very good and you can get anywhere you want to go for a reasonable price. Uber, Lyft, and Rose City Cab can pick you up if you need to get somewhere fast.
It rains here. A lot. Dress in layers, and have good shoes. There is a big umbrella here for you.
It is not recommended to walk late at night in this neighborhood. Although it is a safe area, gunfire can sometimes be heard late at night, and homeless people some of whom are mentally ill are not uncommon.

There is always something to do here. Also, there is tons of hiking, biking, and kayaking if you are into that, there are opportunities to do so. I recommend browsing meetup.com for recreational activities so you don't have to go it alone. The pacific northwest is very rainy! Also, Portland has one of the highest urban Native American population in the country. Get to know people, and you might have an opportunity to learn about native cultures right from the source.
