Needs and animals

Pet-sitting | Animals with specific needs | 1 Dog

We have an Irish Setter who is now 14 years old. He normally needs a walk in the morning and evening, for about 20 mins each time. At the moment, he is taking pain medication twice daily. There are days when his legs are not cooperating fully and they will collapse, so I hope you will consider this and cut the walk short if necessary. Most of the time he is fine though. He might be incontinent (only urine) at times, especially when he knows he's going out for a walk, so if he has an accident in the house I expect you to clean this up. We have found a lovely vet that does home visits at a moments notice and has seen Farran a few times so is well familiar with his condition. He has a rain coat and winter coat for extreme weather conditions. Please put on his safety jacket (yellow) when it's dark at night. He eats twice a day as he needs food with his medicine, but I will explain everything once we meet, and I have a detailed homebook available for you. Overall, he's a very sweet, loveable and gentle dog who likes cuddles, …

House

++ UPDATE August 2018 ++ Our beloved dog Farran has sadly passed away so we will not be hosting for the near future =========== We are a couple with a toddler and come from Spanish and Dutch backgrounds. We live in a bungalow style home with a modest garden in the capital of Finland, Helsinki. Our location provides great bus connections to downtown center (approx. 20 mins), 5 mins walking to supermarkets, post office, etc. There are several forest areas nearby. The main reason for wanting a house sitter is to take care of our Irish Setter, who is 14 years old and no longer capable of travelling with us everywhere we go. For parents: we have a travel cot available for your baby, a high chair and a regular single bed that can be folded out into a double bed. Also lots of toys and other things (including some baby winter gear) that might come in handy when travelling with (smaller) children. Important: we are non-smokers, so we expect our guests to refrain from smoking in and around the house :)

We live in a row house in Helsinki capital, in a suburban, green area with easy access to downtown Helsinki by bus (approx. 20 mins) and walking distance (5 mins) to the supermarket, lunch bar, pharmacy etc. It's also a short bus ride to any of the larger shopping malls nearby (Itis, Prisma Kaari) For nature lovers, there are several lovely green spots to visit in the immediate area. There is also a very large national park nearby (Paloheinä/Torpparinmäki at 5 mins by bus or 30 mins walking) where you can explore parts of a primeval forest. You can use our sleighs/gear for snowy weather. The neighbourhood is pretty quiet and we personally love the relaxing view from our living room. We also have a private sauna :) The airport is easy accessible with bus 615 as the best/direct connection, it's also possible and very easy to go partly by train and bus (train to Käpylä station and then bus 66 or 67).

As mentioned before, there are several bus connections (bus 63 to Kamppi, bus 66 and 67 to Rautatientori) to downtown Helsinki, which is really worth exploring. Apart from the large, convenient shopping malls there, such as Stockmann, Forum, Sokos and Kluuvi - just to name a few- , make sure to visit Senaatintori, the Kauppahalli near the harbour on Kauppatori, and go for a coffee and treat at the Fazer cafe near Esplanadi. There is also plenty to do for museum lovers, and you can explore the famous design district or visit the Rock Church near Kamppi. Everything is easy accessible thanks to the city's great public transport and you can buy day passes on the bus or multiday passes at one of the R-kioski shops - they are everywhere. Most people speak pretty good English which makes it easy to navigate Helsinki in general. Helsinki offers free Wi-Fi throughout the city center (look for "Helsinki City Open WLAN"). For parents: public transport is free for children under 7, and for parents accompanying a child & stroller (that is; 1 parent per child in a stroller).

It was great to meet and house sit for Eline, her family and of course Farran. Her house was a lovely space in a very pretty setting with great transport links into the city. It was very easy to communicate throughout the house-sit. We stayed for Christmas & New Year and it felt very homely with lovely Farran for company. He is an old relaxed loveable man with an awesome personality and we would be more than happy to sit again in the future. We would highly recommend them to anyone as great hosts!

Namur, Belgium - February 2017

Eline and Miguel are most friendly and their home is cozy. Two small bedrooms, a large living-room with a view to their garden and terrace, even a sauna close to the spacious shower-room. Everything was clean and nicely decorated. We found the sheets and towels on the bed and settled down for three nights. Farran, the 12 years old dog, is fantastic, so lovely and well educated! We had a big pleasure to walk around with him in the snowy neighborhood. Shops are close, bus stops, too, and it is easy to get either to the center or to the airport. We recommend this place for next visitors!
