Needs and animals

Pet-sitting | Many plants | Vegetable patch | 1 Dog | 1 Cat

Lisa is half golden retriever crossed with something like a setter, 11 years old, extremely friendly. She needs decent walk every day, and company; the rest of the day she's free to wander around the garden. She has to be kept on the lead at all times when we go out because of her goat-chasing habit. The nearest vet is a ferry ride away in Rhodes, but we do have a pharmacy.

Additional information about these dates

I'm going to the UK for work and then to see family for Christmas. You are very welcome to stay longer; alternatively if you can't quite make the exact dates I can ask friends to help.

House

For the moment, I'm not looking for pet-sitters as my lovely dog has some health issues and I won't be going away without her. I'll update this if things change. Thank you for your interest! Simple two-bedroom house 50 metres from the sea at Ayios Antonis near the small village of Megalo Horio (population approx. 100, including several expats), on the Greek island of Tilos in the south Aegean. Shop and cafe half an hour's walk away. Big garden and terrace with views of sea and mountains. Unspoilt, friendly island with ferry connections to Kos and Rhodes several times a week. Ideal for people who love nature, history, walking and swimming.

The area is very peaceful - you usually just hear goats and the sea. The neighbours are very friendly. It's a few kilometres to the little village of Megalo Horio which has a minimarket and cafe. The road runs past the house (useful for the bus) but it's quite private because of the garden. My house is a relaxed place where I can get my work done (I'm a writer and editor of books - see Octopus in my Ouzo blog) and there's plenty of walking and swimming nearby. I like my house simple and clean. I usually stock the fridge for the pet-sitter. I've got books, Wifi and walking maps but no TV. Tilos is a wild, remote island with a small population and perfect for nature lovers and peace and quiet. My end of the island faces north so the waves can get rough when the wind blows. The bus takes you to the port with more shops and places to eat and drink.

Tourism and Leisure

Museum

In addition to walking and natural beaches, Tilos has a monastery, and hundreds of old chapels dot the hillsides, some with centuries-old frescoes. There's a cave where they discovered the last elephants in Europe. Tilos is also a conservation area with beautiful wildlife and plants - eagles, orchids, etc.

Jen was a lovely host and I feel very lucky to have met her and stayed in her home. Megalo Horio and Tilos in general is a fantastic place. Lisa the dog is very friendly and beautiful. Anyone who can stay here is very lucky :)

We had a fantastic time in Tilos! We enjoyed the village life and the experiences we had with Lisa and the rest of the people in the village. If you want to take a step back, live like a local, and experience a unique lifestyle, this is the stay for you. The weather, the people, Lisa and Jen were fabulous and the latter was welcoming and gave us lots of info and showed us some great places to walk and to swim.

Jennifer is very hospitable and made us instantly feel comfortable in her home. Her house is simple, yet quiet, pleasant, overlooking the magnificent surroundings. She was attentive to all our needs and quick to answer to our inquiries. Lisa is the sweetest dog, playful and very endearing. It was fun to walk her to the different beaches near the beautiful and historically rich village of Megalo Horio, which is the ideal place to relax and revitalize yourself. We would happily repeat this great experience.
