Needs and animals

Pet-sitting | Animals with specific needs | 1 Dog

We have a gorgeous, friendly and (I have to admit) fairly spoilt Labrador. He needs plenty of walks and lots of company and affection. He really loves swimming. He likes to cuddle with you on the couch and is no respecter of your personal space. Our ideal sitters will bring the dog along as they explore the local beaches. bogs, area and beyond.

We have a large open plan kitchen with a huge dining table that is the focus of the house. There is a smaller sitting room off the dining area and another larger sitting room. Our house is full of books, DVDs and CDs. We are close to the sea.

Spiddal is a relaxed village on the coast. It is a gateway to Connemara and Galway city. You can get the basics in the local shop or travel aprox 30 min to Galway city for the bigger/discount supermarkets with a wider choice. Spiddal has excellent pubs with live music most nights. IMPORTANT NOTE The public transport to and from Spiddal is not great. A car is required for this house-sit for your safety and convenience. We'd also really recommend a car for enjoying what the Wild Atlantic way has to offer. Unfortunately our insurance company is not willing to cover a house sitter on our car insurance policy so the sitter will need to have access to own or rental car.

Tourism and Leisure

Spiddal is a gateway village to Connemara and on the Wild Atlantic Way. There are some lovely beaches within a few minutes walk or drive of the house. An hours drive takes you into the heart of the Connemara National Park with all it has to offer. Galway city which is a hive of cultural activity is only 30 minutes away.

It was a delight to be able to care for Diego and stay at Fionnuala's place. We felt well prepared for the sit, with plenty of information and guidance to Diego's needs. We thoroughly enjoyed taking him on walks to many beach, woodland and mountain trails. The town where Fionnuala lives is a great spot, with music playing in the pubs on weekends, stunning beach views across to Clare, local shops for all necessities and a friendly community vibe. Diego is a gorgeous older dog, who looks like a bear and sometimes puts on a "grumpy old man" charm. He's playful, loves to walk and swim, and to be around people. Like all dogs, he ;ones to know what the boundaries are! I wouldn't hesitate in recommending Fionnuala's place to other sitters.

Fionnuala is kindly, relaxed, and welcoming. We had great communication and I felt comfortable taking over from them as she left clear and easy to follow notes on how to look after the house and Diego. It contained all the information I needed and I never felt out of my depth. Their home is a super place to stay and the location is great. Lots of lovely walks nearby - from bogs to beaches. Diego is a very loyal dog and a brilliant companion. He is gentle, calm, and friendly to people and other dogs. I would highly recommend Fionnuala and Diego.

Thank you for having trust us and for your warm welcome. Everything was clearly explained concerning the habits of the dog but also the functioning of the house and until the visit of the children for Halloween. The dog is a really friendly dog but at the beginning he was anxious. It was the first time he stayed at home without his owners. So when I contacted his owners, Fionnuala answered very quickly and gave me good advice to help him to feel better and we spent good time for walks and games on the beach and at home. And the weather was not too bad!
