Pet-sitting
| Animals with specific needs | 2 Dogs
We have two dogs, both female. The older dog is a medium sized Phu Quoc Ridgeback, a Vietnamese breed. We got her from the local animal rescue centre, and as such, she is quite shy, but not aggressive. The younger dog is a small, mixed breed, similar to a Dachshund but a little larger and with longer fur. She was also from the rescue centre, but as a puppy, she is more outgoing and friendly. Neither has any special diet or medical needs but must be walked for at least 20 minutes twice a day. They are used to human companionship during the day, so they need someone who will live in the house and not travel too far. They should not be left alone overnight.

Our home is situated in the suburb of Pinki, about 20 minutes from downtown Riga and about 15 minutes from the beach resort of Jurmala. It is a 4 bedroom home with 2 bathrooms (1 en-suite) and three toilets. The kitchen and lounge area are open-plan, and there is a small garden at the back. The home is quiet and comfortable. Public transport is a short 6 minute walk and the local shops are 10 minutes away. These include supermarkets, a pharmacy, a vet, and numerous other shops. 5 minutes walk is an outlet village that has many clothes shops but also some of the best coffee in Riga. It is possible to cycle to the beach in Jurmala, which takes about 20 minutes.

We have a desk top computer, an electric piano, and a number of bicycles for use (for children aged 9 and up). We are also avid readers, so there are plenty of books to choose from. There are lots of walks through forests close by and lakes that can be visited. There is also an 18 hole golf course within walking distance (5 minutes).

There is a large field area close to the house that is great for dog walking. The village is in a 'gated' community (with simple barriers to stop unwanted cars at night) and is very safe and quiet. There are 3 international schools in the area, so quite a mix of nationalities.

Riga is accessible by public transport; bus (45 minutes), bus and train (35 minutes). The old town of Riga is beautiful, with many restaurants, bars, museums, and shops. The cinema sometimes has films in English and there is a wonderful Opera and Theatre. There is also a strong local music scene. The river Daugava flows through Riga and there are various sightseeing trips and walking tours available. Within a few hours train journeys there are the lovely towns of Sigulda, Cesis and Jelgava.

Stephen & Fleur were very helpful prior to and during my sit when I ran into some issues my first week. They live in a wonderful community area where everyone is very family oriented and friendly. Kea & May are absolutely adorable and very easy to look after. They are the best of friends and so cute together. Thank you Walker family!
