Our cat, Sonja, is generally shy around strangers. She is 18 years old, so she sleeps most of the time. She only has one kidney, so she takes medication daily, which is super easy to administer. It is a small pill which is crushed up and mixed with a treat. We give her filtered water. She stays in the house most of the time but likes to go outside occasionally. The other two cats are semi-feral outside cats that we have "adopted." They are not always around, but when they are we feed them in the barn and leave water for them on the patio. The horses are very friendly and easy to care for. They have a large water trough that only needs refilling once in a while. The horses like to go for walks to graze on fresh grass. All of the animals are fed twice a day - morning and evening.

We are traveling to Serbia for Orthodox Easter (May 5) so depending on when we can arrange flights these days are subject to a day or two change one way or the other. We would love to meet the people who would be staying a day before we leave to go over particulars of the house and get to know each other a little.

The covered patio has a gas barbeque grill as well as a traditional open barbacoa available for outside cooking. We also have two bicycles available (one men's - one women's), and beach chairs and an umbrella. We keep a table and chairs at the riverside to use on hot days - we put them directly in the river at the shore and enjoy a cool-down and bird watch. The horses enjoy a river cool down as well. The internet service is reliable, and there is a large smart TV. Inside window shutters help control the temperature. In the heat of summer the house feels air conditioned by closing the shutters and using the large stand up fans; in the winter, closing the sutters at night helps keep the heat inside.

We enjoy the best of both worlds as the house is located in a country setting with loads of privacy, but is also only a 10-15 minute drive (20-25 by bicycle) to the nice sized town of Mora D'Ebre with most everything you need such as groceries, clothing stores, pharmacy, banking, medical care, etc. Nearby Mora La Nova has a train station with inexpensive service to Barcelona (2 hours), Tarragona (1 hour), Reus (<1 hour) and more. A 45 minute drive takes you to beautiful beaches with beachside cafes and restaurants near El Perelló.

The region of Tarragona in the province of Catalonia in Spain has a unique and beautiful culture. There are many festivals throughout the year that celebrate the arts, and the large agricultural contributions Catalonia makes to the country. The festivals typically include traditional music and dance, as well as homemade goodies (olive oil, honey, jams, etc.) and art (paintings, jewelry, sculputre, ceramics, etc.). The local people are very friendly and eager to show visitors their customs. Just north of us is the comarcal of El Priorat which is home to many vineyards where fantastic wines are made. Tours and tastings are available. The beautiful village of Miravet is overlooked by a Medieval castle and Ebro riverside bars and restaurants. There are many small villages to explore nearby, and almost every one hosts a weekly market day where you can find fresh fruits, vegetables, and olives; art and handmade jewelry; clothing and a variety of other interesting items. There are hiking/bicycling trails everywhere with stunning views. Larger cities such as Reus, Tarragona and Barcelona are a short train ride or drive away.

What an amazing stay we had at John and Regina's place! We couldn't have asked for a better time, all thanks to their awesome experience to take care of their horses Hombre and Llanós, and Sonja the cat.
First of all, let's talk about those horses. They were total champs-friendly, well-behaved, and just a blast to hang out with. I've had some horse experience, but looking after them for so long was a whole new level of learning for me. And for my partner, who hadn't been around horses much before, it was like love at first neigh! Seriously, they are the sweetest, most affectionate horses. And our sunset walks together? Pure magic.
And then there's Sonja, the coolest cat. She's got this chill vibe. Taking care of her was a breeze, and her independent spirit added a whole lot of charm to the place.
Speaking of charm, John and Regina are the absolute best hosts. Super welcoming, great communicators and very cool. We felt right at home from the moment we arrived, and we're already dreaming about when we can go back.
Their home is like a dream, right by the river with nature all around. It was the perfect place to relax and enjoy the nature.
So, huge thanks to John and Regina for making our stay so incredible.
