Pet-sitting | 1 Dog

Our dog is called Milka, and she is a five year old lab mix that we rescued from the streets as a pup when we were living in Greece. She is calm and relaxed but also very playful, and she loves to run about on walks. We would like the house sitter to keep her company so she can stay in her own space while we're away (she gets a bit depressed when she goes to a kennel). She definitely needs a couple of walks a day (lots of lovely countryside around), her food and water, and if you feel like it you can feel free to give her as many cuddles as you want. When walking in the countryside, we let her off the lead and she is very well behaved, but you can see what you feel comfortable with. She shouldn't stay alone overnight or very late in the night, as she gets stressed and starts barking (according to the neighbors). We usually take her with us when we go out, as most restaurants around here are happy to allow dogs. That's about it!

House

Our house is bright and airy, in a lovely quiet neighborhood. It has a big sunny garden, and a comfortable guestroom for you. We are about a three minute walk to the village shop and the bus stop, from where it is a ten minute bus ride into the centre of Nyon. If you are in walking mood, a beautiful path can take you to the lakeside, through fields and farms, in about half an hour.

We have high speed internet, a TV and a stereo system with lots of records you can choose from. The living room has a cozy wood burning fireplace, perfect for cold winter evenings. There is a guest bedroom for you, and we could discuss whether it's possible to arrange access to a car or a bike while we're away!

The countryside around the village is beautiful. Vines, wheat fields, a little river - it is a pleasure to walk around. The village has a small restaurant, but nearby Gland, Nyon and Rolle have loads of other options. There are also museums, beautiful castles, and a great free lakeside plage and pool nearby. We are about half an hour from Geneva and Lausanne, and about 10-20 minutes from lovely lakeside towns such as Coppet, Rolle and Morges, and less than an hour from Vevey and Montreux. It is lovely! We are also about 20 mins away from the nearest ski slopes (St Cergue), and only a couple of hours away from the French Alps, and places such as Megeve and Chamonix. It is a quiet family neighborhood though, so it is really not suitable for people who want to party all night long! Thanks for reading - we hope to hear from you soon! Please note that the appartment is a first-floor walk up with no elevator, and that the garden is a common one - it is freely accessible, and you are more than welcome to enjoy it as long as you are respectful of the neighbours!

Lausanne and Geneva are both about 30 mins away, and so are loads of lovely lakeside small towns such as Rolle, Morges, Prangins, and Coppet. Nyon is a beautiful small town, with a free public beach and a great (non-free) swimming pool right on the edge of the lake. We are quite close to the French border (Divonne, the nearest French town is lovely as well). There are great hikes and biking around, and you can be in the mountains in no time (in fact, there are ski resorts within half an hour of our place, in case you're coming on a winter or Christmas break :-) ). There is a little playground about three minutes from here, and many more in the neighbouring villages.

My host Vicky V. is a very open, communicative and friendly person. She prepared my stay very well. When I arrived the house was clean, all things I needed were at place and all handy information was written down including what to do in emergency cases. Her husband was introducing me to the house and the dog. Milka the dog is very friendly to people and other dogs. She loves walking a lot and playing with her favorite toy in the garden. She joins you on every trip but also will show you her favorite walks if you let her lead. The house is modern and light with a big garden which is easy to care for. As a house-sitter you get an own bedroom with a comfortable double bed and WiFi is accessible in the entire house. The surrounding is great for long walks. You can go down to the lake, walk in a nearby forest and visit Nyon as well as the pretty villages nearby with their farm shops offering fresh products. I also made short rides by car with Milka to the top of the mountains where we were hiking on routes with wonderful nature and great views. Although I almost didn’t have any personal contact to the hosts I feel that I am friends with them. We were staying in good contact before, during and after my stay. WhatsApp was the main medium to give feedback and exchange information during the house sitting period. I love to come back again to that destination!

We really enjoyed staying at Chris and Vicky's house which is situated in a lovely area by Lake Leman. In particular, Milka the dog was a pleasure to look after and we all loved the many long walks in the stunning countryside.
