Needs and animals

Pet-sitting | Animals with specific needs | 2 Dogs

We have two German Shepherds. Luna is 13 and Skye her daughter is 9. Luna has Arthritis and she is very stiff and slow,. They are super friendly, affectionate girls. Skye is quite an anxious dog and needs gentle handling and lots of love. They need to be on leads near cats, sheep and other dogs. They have great re call and are very obedient. We hate to put them into kennels, especially as Luna is old now. We walk them once a day for an hour but they are happy to be out all day long and are absolutely fine in the car. As Luna is very slow now they can have two shorter walks everyday or if you walk them down into Cowes they are very happy to have a rest while you enjoy coffee, a meal or a beer!

We have lots of books and CD's to listen to. We have 2 Bikes available to borrow. There are lots of interesting cycle routes to explore. The kitchen is a real sunspot with a sun room attached which leads out to a little patio .. ideal place to having morning coffee in the sunshine and listen to the seagulls. There is decking at the top of the garden which is in the sunshine until about 7pm, a great place to catch the last of the rays. There is a shed with electricity and we have tumble dryer or there is a washing line in the garden.

The Isle of Wight is a holiday Island so there is a wealth of activities on our doorstep. There are places of historical interest nearby (Osborne House and Carisbrooke Castle) Many beautiful walks on beaches, in woodland, on the downs or just walking through Cowes. The beaches are minutes away but so are all the shops. We are a short distance from the Co Op, Marks&Spencers, Aldi and a Sainsbury's super store, Dunehelm, The Range and many more. Newport is 10 minutes away and is a bustling little town with a Cinema. Our medical centre is 5 minutes away and St Mary's Hospital is 15 mins away. It is lovely to wander down to Cowes and browse around the shops, stop for a coffee or something stronger! and watch all the Yachts and boats in the Marina or stroll along the Esplanade and watch the hustle bustle of the Solent. There is also a beautiful park in Cowes. There are several superb Restaurants on the Island and in Cowes. Our home is very cosy and the sitting room is a perfect place to read, watch TV or listen to music. …

Very positive first house sitting experience. Ginny and Simon are very friendly and welcoming, the house is tidy, the dogs are well behaved and pleasure to be around.

Very relaxing stay, looking after Skye and Luna, while Ginny and Simon were away. Lovely dogs, good location and sunny weather! A warm welcome from Ginny and Simon, with lots of local references, made for an excellent house and pet sit.

Ginny and Simon are very warm and welcoming hosts and their two German Shepherds, Luna and Skye, are two of the friendliest dogs we have ever met. They are extremely well mannered, and obedient and a pleasure to walk. We loved taking them to the beach, the local park and the center of Cowes (8 minutes by foot) where many people would stop to admire them. Ginny and Simon let us use their car so we were able to take the dogs to a remote beach and also see some of the island. We had a wonderful time and are already looking forward to going back one day!
