We were the first house-sitters that Martin and Kylie had ever used. Our brief was to look after Sammy the cat and their house in south-west France during the spring of 2022. With its panoramic views overlooking a magnificent valley down to the village of Gagnac sur Cere .. this was not a chore. Sammy is a no maintenance fellow. He eats when he wants, sleeps where and when he wants and will come to you if he wants brushing or cuddles. Sammy has the run of much of the surrounding hamlet and would not recognise a litter tray, let alone have need of one. If he wanted company, he would track you down and rub himself around your legs, purr, and then hop up on a couch. He was never known to shy away from a brushing, in fact he sometimes slept holding the brush handle. We miss him. Martin and Kylie gave us the 2-bedroom gite with all its mod cons. I can tell you that after nearly 8 weeks we had really moved in and had a very comfortable daily rhythm. There are plenty of shops, restaurants, and cafes etc. within easy driving distance of the hamlet. We always found what we wanted in the shops. During the 8 weeks there were several times we needed to contact Kylie and Martin to keep them informed of an event such as weather damage or unexpected Sammy behaviour. They were always readily available at the other end of a WhatsApp chat. All issue-ettes were easily solved in this manner. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Kylie and Martin’s. Beaulieu sur Dordogne and surrounds is an amazing part of France with something for everyone, and Sammy the cat is not to be missed.
