We are retired international educators. Our permanent residence is just north of New York City; our two adult sons live and work there. Our parents have passed away, so we are free to travel. We are researching retirement locations, and want to experience home life in different places, as part of our search. We enjoy pets, and have had pets ourselves: dogs, cats, birds, fish, and hamsters. We have cared for chickens as well, and have done house-sitting in Saudi Arabia and New York, with both cats and dogs.
Jeffrey is a Social Studies & English teacher, and occasionally tutors students and manages websites online. Jeffrey worked in information technology for magazine publishers for twenty years, and Barbara taught elementary school and Christian education in Presbyterian churches. Then we took our two teenage sons and moved overseas to teach in India, then Saudi Arabia. We later also taught in Korea and Qatar. Jeffrey most recently led workshops for English teachers in Morocco, before the pandemic.
We are in good health, and enjoy walking around our neighborhood, wherever we are. We prefer using public transportation, but are quite used to driving in different countries.
We are comfortable with new phones and technology. Because we rented out our house when we taught overseas, we know what it means to entrust your home to another family, and we look forward to leaving each place as nice or better than we found it. Barbara is particularly helpful with décor and plants; Jeffrey is handy with plumbing, garden, and electrical issues as well as technology. Our most recent pet was a rescued pitbull mix named SuzyQ, a strong, loving, and quiet companion to our sons. We have also cared for cats and dogs at previous house-sits for friends in Saudi Arabia, then recently 4 cats in southern France; and 3 large dogs in Qatar!
