Our home is located near the capitol Belmopan The house is situated on two fully-fenced acres. We are on the main road and the bus stop is just outside our gate. The capitol, Belmopan, is less than 6 miles away. We have 3 dogs. The 2 German Shepherds are our guard dogs - very loving and affectionate with people they know but ferocious with strangers. Part of the job is to be sure they are penned whenever the gardener, housekeeper, or a guest is going to be on the property if we're not there. The third dog is a super fluffy Pom-a-Poo who usually comes with us. We also have two semi-indoor cats. The dogs MUST stay inside at night - preferably in your bedroom or, their preference, on the bed:-) All the animals need lots of affection, feeding twice a day and the cats need the litter boxes cleaned once each day. Our one stringent rule is that the house must always be occupied at night. The gardener comes 1 day/week and the housekeeper comes Monday and Weds. mornings and all day on Fridays to clean. Our area is very centrally located so many of Belize's attractions are close by including some of the most spectacular Mayan ruins (Cahal Pech, Xunantunich, Caracol, and Lamanai), the Belize Zoo, a butterfly breeding facility, a monkey sanctuary, the "Crystal Cave" (technically Actun Tunichil Muknal or ATM Cave), and more. There's zip lining, eco tours, cave tubing, etc. all close by. Hopkins has wonderful beaches, great snorkeling and fishing and is only hours away. Placencia and the Cayes are far enough away that you would need to be gone 1-2 nights to make the trip worthwhile. The local bus or shuttle bus is inexpensive and quite convenient since they stop right in front of our home. Alternatively you may have your own vehicle or rent one. Rentals can be quite pricey so if you decide to stay for an extended time, you will probably want to plan to buy a used car. When we're going to be gone for an extended trip to the US, we always have a house sitter in the main house who would have primary responsibility for pet care.

The apartment has a large open concept living/dining/kitchen area with TV and both a dining table and a nice raised bar area above one of the kitchen counters. The kitchen has a good-size refrigerator/freezer, a 6-burner gas stove, microwave, and lots of small electric appliances. Because of the location of the apartment with its north-facing river view, it tends to stay at a very pleasant temperature without running the A/C except during the hottest days. There's plenty of room for gardening if you're so inclined and we grow a wide variety of fruits including bananas, plantains, mango, avocado, guava, mulberries, limes, breadfruit, pineapple, coffee, and more.

We are located on two acres in a small village. The community cemetery is next door. In general the area is quiet but we do have road noise - occasionally obnoxious trucks. Our home is set way back on the property and the main rooms are on the opposite side from the road. We have lots of fruit trees so you will be able to enjoy delicious mangoes, avocados, papaya, pineapple, guava, and golden plum as well as bananas and plantains depending upon what's in season.

We are located about 1-1/2 hours from the good beaches at Hopkins where you can charter a boat to go snorkeling or scuba diving on Belize's famous reef. Mayan ruins abound including such outstanding sites as Xunantunich, Cahal Pech, Caracol and Lamanai. The Belize Zoo is small but delightful. Other sights include a monkey sanctuary. a butterfly breeding program, and all kinds of eco-tourism, cave tubing and zip lining opportunities. The world famous "Crystal Cave" (officially Actun Tunichil Muknal or ATM Cave) is just up a side road in our village, Of course you can also swim. The main tourist destinations of Ambergris Caye and Caye Caulker are primarily accessible via ferry from Belize City so they're too far for a day trip.

What a wonderful house sit! Where do we start? Ninja and Skeexzy are the most friendly cats you can hang out with. They like cuddling with you, purring to no end. Jagger is a hurricane who loves to have his legs stroked, and Christy is the sweetest dog you will meet, always ready for a belly rub. We loved them all! Sherry and Ted are very welcoming, friendly, and great communicators. They prepared a comprehensive guide with all the necessary information about their house and their pets. Whenever we contacted them with any questions we got a quick response. Their beautiful house is comfortable, with anything you need, safe (the guard dogs give you peace of mind!) and with amazing views of the river and the green surrounding landscape. We enjoyed having the coconuts, soursops, cucumbers and other fruits from their large garden. Belize is a beautiful country. If you like nature, you will enjoy it. There are many things to do: waterfalls, caves, beaches, hiking trails. You will be very lucky to house sit for them!
