We have a single ginger cat called Gato and feed a couple of outdoor cats, quite a few plants to water (in the summer) and some fish are fed every morning (only in the Spring / Summer). The cats are fed kibble and some wet food every day,.. They will tell you when they want it! Gato sleeps in the house overnight and roams the garden or seeks sunny spots in the house during the day. We do not have or need a litter tray. He was a stray cat that adopted us. He is a friendly cat that likes to play and follow you around. But we do have to stop him scratching the leather furniture and keep other cats out of the house. For these reasons, we would like someone to be there every night to keep the cat company. The plants are close to the house and a hose is available. (no watering required in winter) There are wood fires for heat and hot water from electricity. You will need to be able to light a wood fire every night to keep warm during the winter as we do not have central heating - something you have …

Modern house in Penedo, a hilltop village very close to the sea. Situated in the middle of the Sintra National Park yet less than 40 minutes by car from the center of Lisbon. There is one cafe and restaurant in the village. Grocery shops and more restaurants are within walking distance in the next door village of Almoçageme. Home to a ginger cat. Please note that the house is not suitable for children as there are too many dangerous hazards such as the unfenced fish pond/pool, unfenced 7 meter well and unfenced garage roof top and terraces.

We are in a small village with views to the coast near the historic city of Sintra. The village is quiet and home to both locals and expats, our house is in the old village but a modern build. There is one cafe and restaurant in the village, Refugio do Cicista. Grocery shops and more cafes and restaurants are a 15-minute walk away in the next-door village down the hill. There are beautiful walks in the forest or down to the coast. The roads are narrow and winding and a car is recommended. There is space to park in our garage. We live in a hilly area and have lots of stairs in the house so it is only suitable for the fit and able. In the winter we use the fireplace in the cosier upstairs mezzanine which does mean carrying wood up two flights of stairs. The open plan living room is lovely and warm on a sunny day. Both South and East facing sides of the house are glass. This makes downstairs impossible to heat at night. You will need to bring warm jumpers and footwear in the winter months. Historical Sintra is a few kms away and has five beautiful palaces and gardens to explore. Lisbon is also close, Cascais and Estoril are nearby, great walking in the hills and coast, some great waves for surfing very close by. We are 2km from the beach for walks or surf. Weather is a little cooler than Lisbon because we are so close to the Atlantic

Jacqueline and Will are two great people. Not only I felt very welcomed but they helped me a lot when I arrived and when I left. I was in touch with them very often and I even met their friends in the village. Beautiful people and souls. It was a wonderful stay. They have a lovely cat Gato who became my friend. I miss him already. The 2 other outdoor cats were friendly too. A great experience, I am glad I met Jacqueline and Will and I will never forget them. I wish you both the best and of course to Mister Gato too.

Will and Jacqueline were two hosts welcoming and attentive: they took the time to show us everything in the house and the garden and to introduce us to their adorable cat. Gato is charming and uncomplicated cat. We passed three unforgettable weeks in Portugal thanks to their advices and tips (sightseeing trips, restaurants, best way to go to Lisbon etc.). Their house is tastefully decorated and well equipped! We stayed in touch with them during the whole journey via Whatsapp - that was really reassuring. In a word - it was perfect!
