Rufus is a 14 ear old wolf hound mix. He is very slow now and one walk a day to the beach from the house is really all he needs. He loves snuggles on the couch, and is great company. He is very deaf and so we use his leash when walking him down to the beach as he may not hear cars coming. .

Our warm and cozy newly built cottage overlooks a river estuary that leads down to Oysterhaven Bay and is an 8 minute drive to the coastal village of Kinsale. There are two bedrooms both with ensuite and a large open, well equipped kitchen that leads onto a large dining and living area. The living area has a wall of windows that look out over the river, with doors that lead to an outdoor patio/eating area. The cottage is filled with light and has amazing views, with a peaceful setting located down a private country lane.

We are located in the middle of a beautiful countryside, and magnificent coatstline. There are numerous walks directly from the house, including the ballycotton cliff walk which will take you down the stunning coastline to ballycotton. The coast is home to many types of water fowl including ducks, gannets, cormorants, seagulls, herons and snowy egrets. The house has infloor heating and is very dry and cozy. Lots of windows that open on bright sunny days to let in the clean coastal air.

We are in a very quiet area with minimal light pollution so the stars are amazing on clear nights. We are an 15 minute drive to Midleton and 30 minutes to cork city. Parts of West Cork are easily accessible by car and there is plenty to explore close to our house. A car would be essential. A car would be essential as we are out in the country, There is a bus to Cork city, the bus stop is approx. 15 mins. from the house.
Ballyandreen is a small coastal hamlet, close to Ballycotton, a well known small fishing village (excellent fresh fish). There is a farmer's market on Saturdays in Midleton and Ballymaloe House and Ballymaloe cookery school are both a 10 minute drive from here..

There is lots to discover in and around Kinsale, the old head of Kinsale, the old signal tower that now houses the lusitannia museum, too many amazing coastal and cliffs walks to name here, along with west cork towns along the south part of the wild atlantic way such as Clonakilty and Schull. Cork is a mere 30 minutes away and has all the amenities you would expect of the second largest city in Ireland. Restaurants, theatre, music venues, museums etc... So the cottage has access to the best of both worlds, gorgeous countryside with spectacular coastal views as well as a modern city on its doorstep.

The Madsens' architect-designed, modern home overlooking the River Stick is a real gem. I spent nearly a month taking care of Rufus, my old hound-dog pal, and couldn't have enjoyed it more. Close to the pretty, historic town of Kinsale and all it has to offer including boating and sightseeing trips along the Wild Atlantic Way, which starts right here. Hosts Rudy and MaryAnn were great fun to hang out with before they left and I'm hoping we can do it again soon. One of the best!
