The beginning of my career led me to represent two of the most influential African Americans of this past century, as a Communications & PR Executive (one a politician, the first African American Mayor of Atlanta and the other, an entertainer, the musical Pioneer of social and political consciousness, a double inductee into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame) which gives me almost 20 years of experience in the political, entertainment, private-sector and fashion arenas.

As a graduate of Michigan State University, College of Arts & Letters, a personal and notable contribution made under my creative direction was a fundraiser which raised over 50K to construct a Martin Luther King, Jr. Bust, standing today, in the M.S.U. Student Services Building.

My first career endeavor landed me in Atlanta, where I served as an Assistant Press Secretary to the late Mayor Maynard Jackson at the young age of 21. I was assigned to special projects including: the Planning Team for the 1996 Olympics Public Relations Committee, Editorial Assistant for “CityBeat”, a newspaper that especially highlighted Mayor Jackson’s development successes in Atlanta and Editorial Calendar Coordinator for Hartsfield Atlanta International Airport’s ‘Executive Travel’ magazine (distribution presently is over 5 million).

While in Atlanta, I landed the extraordinary opportunity of working with the late & legendary Curtis Mayfield. My writing, presentation and marketing skills were highlighted in a biography package my team compiled and developed (a fusion of his famous euphonies, a detailed biography of Mr. Mayfield’s life, and a video recorded in his Atlanta music studio) AND in writing and negotiating music sampling contracts when approached by such musical artists as: Ice Cube, En Vogue, Boys to Men and George Clinton to purchase bars of music from Mr. Mayfield. Note, the early 1990’s was the beginning of the “sampling” revolution. Upon submission of Mr. Mayfield’s candidacy package to N.A.R.A.S. (National Association of Recording Arts & Sciences), Mr. Mayfield received the 1994 Lifetime Achievement Grammy Award during the annual GRAMMY Awards Ceremony held in Los Angeles, CA. Other special projects I had the opportunity to assist on under Mr. Mayfield’s record label & staff were with Jermaine Dupree (Xscape)/SoSoDef/Columbia Records, Speech (Arrested Development) & Billboard Magazine.
